About Marion

The Little Warrior
The twins Boy and Nina grew up in Indonesia, at a time when it was still called Indie and the Dutch were regreening the country. Boy and Nina are 'Indisch': they have a Dutch grandfather and an Indonesian grandmother. Nina and Boy live in one big house with their parents, grandparents, stepbrother and two sisters.
Nina is a tough girl, who is a band for nothing and who dares everything. Boy has become quieter after the death of his eldest brother Felix. Nina and Boy have everything they could wish for in the beautiful country. Until the war starts and the Japanese occupy the country. From that moment on, everything changes.

Where do you hide when it rains
I'm Jo the Little and I'm mad at everyone. I will never tell my mother again, nor Lisa, because they can't keep secrets. Since Lisa lives with us, it is no longer cozy at home. Mom and she are always giggling about everything. The other day at the table, mom told Lisa that I'm in love with Retse. That was a shame on her part, because I only said that he could draw so well... Now that my father lives elsewhere, I only see him once a week. Mama or Lisa takes me away by tram, because I have to transfer 3 times. I think I can do it alone, but they don't want to. I don't have a girlfriend, the girls in my class are all stupid bitches. The boys are stupid, except Retse.

Fair behind the church
There is a fair behind the church. A cheer goes up as one of the children passes the message. The sluggish class is suddenly in turmoil. Funfair behind the church consists of connected stories in which a different child from the same class and sometimes their teacher is the main character. They come from all kinds of backgrounds and from different backgrounds. But that afternoon they almost all want the same thing: to the fair.

Matabia
It was neither a shell nor a pebble. It was like a chewed-up candy. A matabia, Werner said. If you have it with you, don't worry. Nothing will happen to you. This is the story of the Indian girl Sylvia who lives in the Netherlands. During the long, exciting evening when she is home alone with her brother and sister, she thinks about the country where her parents come from. And about all the ghosts and ghosts that go with it! Playful and authentic drawings.

Small but strong
This is Has. He is small. Yet he is already six years old. Just like Bart and Wim. But they are much bigger. And they let Has notice that too! After school they stand by the barriers and wait for Has… to bully him! Will Lies be able to help him?

Letters from Souad
Souad is a Moroccan girl who lives in the Netherlands. She is in high school and wants to get good grades. But when there are problems at home because her mother runs away, it becomes difficult. She is the eldest daughter and her father thinks it is nonsense that a woman should know so much. He never went to school himself. He is a bit old-fashioned and doesn't understand much about Dutch society. Gradually, Souad comes to understand that. She tells Bianca, an Indian girl she met in Morocco during a holiday, everything she experiences. Because although Bianca lives a very different life than Souad, she can still sympathize with her.

The Dream of the Skinny Tiger
The story of the dark Cindy who lives in the Indies with her parents, her grandmother, her 3 handicapped brothers and her white sister. Cindy finds that she can sometimes predict what will happen and that frightens her. When she gets older she wants to leave the Indies. She marries and lives in the Netherlands for many years. Only when she, now a grandmother herself, returns to her native country does she find out who she really is and what happened to her youngest brother. An exciting and atmospheric story by Marion Bloem, whose own childhood is closely linked to the tropics. She wrote novels and children's books.

The Secret Place
Dini and Helma are friends. Secret friends, because they only see each other in their secret place.
